I began training with Liz Last year because I was tired of constantly starting over. I’ve been trying to lead a healthy lifestyle for years now and I always found myself falling off and giving up due to an injury, a cheat meal then turned into a cheat week, or just pure lack of motivation. I knew I had to change my perspective and my negative connotation associated with working out and diet culture but didn’t really know how or where to start.
I had slipped a disc at only 26 years old and was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease so naturally I just figured pain was going to be a part of my life. This injury held me back mentally more than I anticipated and the amount of knowledge required to navigate this injury was daunting. My only hesitation with signing up with Liz was that I would give up as soon as that crippling back pain came back.
I’ve tried so many different workout and diet programs from YouTube videos, P90X, Insanity, Ladder, South Beach diet, the 21 Day Fix, Weight Watchers, SlimFast, you name it - I’ve likely tried it. I’d spent 3 years with an acupuncturist and holistic medicine doctor trying to alleviate my back pain, which only seemed to help temporarily. I liked the variety in all the new and different programs I was trying but I didn’t like that they would usually start out too advanced and I’d feel lacking that I wasn’t able to keep up. I did PT for about 6 months after the herniated disc and I loved how slow we took it and the exercises were challenging yet manageable but it was lacking a mental piece that would keep me consistent.
My biggest takeaway from my experience while training with Liz has to be the mental piece of it all. My mind has always been my biggest obstacle and learning to allow myself to work through failures. She has taught me that it’s okay to be bad at something when you’re just starting out, don’t judge yourself for your setbacks, and just continue to move forward. She’s also taught me that part of my hate for lunges was just a muscle imbalance preventing me from being able to move my body properly.
Since I started training with Liz through her one on one video sessions, Not only did I gain strength physically – I gained strength mentally. She showed me how to take small consistent steps to build up my core and move properly to protect my spine. Fear of injury isn’t looming over my head any longer because I have the knowledge of when and how I need to work through that back pain or rest. While I am still a work in progress I do see muscles forming and my posture has greatly improved!

I started training because I was desperate for support and something to work for me, as I was dealing with a Baker's cyst (popliteal cyst), aka a fluid filled sac, behind my left knee, that was flaring on and off for a year. I had started playing volleyball again when I turned 30, and didn't have any issues the first year, after not playing for 8 years. I was an athlete as a kid/teenager, with soccer and volleyball as my main sports growing up. But after 1.5 years of getting back into volleyball, every other week, the area behind my knee would swell up, cause a dull feeling, and I'd be limping because I couldn't put much weight on it.
I was seen by a podiatrist, an orthopedic surgeon, and some x-ray technicians, and they ruled out a meniscal tear and deep vein thrombosis aka a potential blood clot threat. The orthopedic surgeon told me to start doing physical therapy once a week, and that I could keep playing volleyball. The first time I went to PT, my knee was in a flare state and the PT told me 'we can't do much for a Baker's Cyst'. That was not encouraging to hear, especially since everyone on reddit/online were saying things like 'I have had this for years, and it never goes away.'
The only person I knew who had experienced dealing with a Baker's cyst was Beyonce, but it's not like I had her on speed dial... Anyway, I did a few PT sessions once a week, but it didn't seem to be moving the needle for me. The ortho said if PT didn't work after a few months, that I could potentially come in for steroid injections, which to me sounded like a money-making, ongoing band-aid solution. If it was all inflammation related, did I have arthritis? How many times could I elevate it and ice it? I was wearing compression stockings during work and stopped going on walks because it would cause a flare.
In December of 2023, I decided to stop playing volleyball and basically stopped exercising completely. Not having an outlet to exercise tanked my mental health/confidence, and I gained a few pounds from being more sedentary.
In August, after 8 months off, I finally didn't have a flare for more than a month and I saw some light at the end of the tunnel. I had dreams of being the hot, toned, strong gym girl anyway prior to my injury, because I knew about the benefits of resistance training on longevity and overall health outcomes, but now there was a push for actually getting started.
The algorithm did its thing and I came across one of Liz's reels about helping people overcome -injuries/muscle imbalances, etc.- with weight training. I listened to almost her entire podcast before setting up an intro call. I loved her personality and training/education style. Even though I felt nervous and was intimidated a bit by her/the whole process, I had a feeling she would be able to help me. I wanted to gain strength back in my right leg/knee, get stronger/toned, lose fat, and I needed personal, encouraging support tailored to me. I was also worried about the money/investment it would take, but I was more worried about not being able to exercise ever again (dramatic feeling, but felt real). I also was hesitant of it being 'the right time' to start a program because my schedule was crazy and there was a lot on my plate, emotionally too, with life/work.
In 2020, I followed a 5 minute video on youtube with 2 lb pound weights and built some lean muscle on my arms from the amount of reps I did, and the frequency I did it. I had been an athlete previously and I was passionate about nutrition/eating well, but for some reason, my lean, toned arms felt like 'proof' to me that building muscle was possible. I had lost some weight on and off from paleo dieting but I felt frail and weak, in my arms and core prior to starting the weight training. For the next two years, before I got back into volleyball, I did those light weights, high reps, and long walks. As mentioned, I got into volleyball again, but then once I started dealing with the Baker's cyst, trying to do things on my own, without a plan, did not work. Scrolling endlessly on Tiktok and not really finding any information tailored to my exact situation did not help. Reading comments of Baker's cysts never going away, did not help.
Having someone (Liz) to accompany me, train me, and guide me through the ups and downs of the whole process/program changed everything for me <3
I feel like a whole new person since starting my program with Liz. Mentally, I feel more resilient, capable and confident. Instead of just -dreaming- who to become 'health wise', I have seen myself step into my higher self. I have built good habits with grocery shopping and meal prepping that I didn't consistently have before. I can wake up earlier and work out before work without it feeling like death. I know what to do with free weights and a bench. I know how to talk myself out of a bad spiral, or at least I am better at it, than before. I feel taken care of and supported by Liz, and that encouragement goes far.
She helps me take life for what it is, and shows me how to adjust training and/or get back to the plan if something has brought me down. Learning the ins and outs of weight training from her, has also built my knowledge base and my confidence in understanding form and knowing why I need to do certain things.
Training with Liz feels like working out with a friend, but someone who is an expert in her field, there to aid me in meeting my goals. Physically and visually, I have gained muscle and strength, in my arms, chest, core, quads, glutes, etc. When I started, I had to use a chair to do squats with, and I was scared of even lowering my body down. I can now do both reverse lunges and squats with 50 pounds, and with good form may I add. My left knee has not flared, and it doesn't collapse inward while I am simply walking. I have lost some fat as well, and have gone down a pant size. I can do bicep curls to an overhead shoulder press with 40 lbs. I am not back on the court yet, and still have work to do with muscle imbalances, have more strength to gain, and fat to lose, but I do feel it is possible with time, commitment, and support.
My biggest takeaway from my experience while training with Liz is that there truly is another life waiting for us on the other side. It takes courage and determination on our part, and support, guidance, love and care from her, but we can get places, together. There are some hard days for sure on any fitness/life journey no matter the situation, but the good days outnumber the hard ones, since training is always something to come back to.
~Thanks Liz, for being your down to earth, relatable, fun, and smart self~ I am grateful for you~
Love,
Jacqueline

“I first met Liz just 3 short years ago. I initially trained with her over a 6 session “new member” trial series, but eagerly signed up for an additional 16 sessions. After continued progress in weight loss, fitness, and overall wellbeing, I suggested that my wife also begin to train with Liz. Over the next two and a half years, and multiple additional packaged sessions, my wife and I are in the best shape either of us can remember. I lost 22 pounds early on, and have easily sustained this weight, while building muscle.
Liz has absolute focus on our workouts. Each session is different, with no two workouts in the last three years the same. She takes an interest in our health, our lives, and has been an absolute pleasure to know. I whole heartedly recommend Liz as a professional, knowledgeable, enthusiastic Personal Fitness Trainer.”

Personal training with Liz King has been the best health investment I could have made.Liz was sincere, honest and asked many questions. I was surprised by her focus on nutrition and the importance of proper diet paired with exercise. When we spoke she truly listened to what I had to say and my goals. I have been challenged with digestive health problems which makes eating a normal diet difficult, I also do not eat most meat which makes for an interesting nutritional plan as well. We overcame these hurdles and together formed a nutrition plan paired with my active life style. Within a few weeks of training I began to see and feel results! Each session is designed to my ability but Liz raises the bar for future goal achievement. I am eager to get to the gym for my workouts as Liz makes each session unique.
Being strong and fit has opened the world of opportunity for me and now I'm eager to explore many new activities. Thank you Liz for your guidance, partnership and your friendship!

I have worked with many different trainers for over 20 years, and, put simply, Liz King is the best trainer I have worked with. I started with Liz when the trainer I was working with left and the gym transferred my sessions to her. First, she took the time to discover more about me, my issues, and goals. It was a holistic review, which included food, nutrition, and lifestyle. From then on, each training session was well focused on my goals and I found her to have a motivational, deceptively easygoing personality that was effective in getting me to work hard to achieve my goals. I appreciated how she periodically checked in with me to ask for feedback and, when I gave feedback, she was great with follow through. Her training included a good balance of exercises to help with balance, strength, and flexibility.
She ramped up the weight/difficulty of the exercises in a way that kept me challenged without overextending myself and I improved in all these areas. She began every session with a discussion of any issues I might be experiencing and if I had other training that would be adversely impacted by her plans for the day. When I did, she easily adjusted the plans as needed.
I have suffered from chronic back issues for decades and I made more progress on these issues in the short time I was able to work with Liz than I did with any of the other trainers, doctors, chiropractors, and back specialists that I have seen over the years. I am a long-time cyclist and former licensed racer and these back issues impacted both my daily life and my racing. Through her work with me on strength, flexibility, therapies to fix the root causes of the issues, and suggestions of how I should modify my form on the bike, I made a significant improvement. I have worked with many cycling specialists to fix these issues, including one that was world renowned and worked with famous professional bike racers, and none of them were as effective as Liz was.
In my experience, Liz’s knowledge of different techniques and corrective exercises makes her a unique, more effective trainer. She knows exactly how each exercise should be best done, not just to improve strength, but also to keep you free of injury. As a racer, I am accustomed to pain and injury – it comes with the sport – but with Liz, I found I did not have to just live with some of the pain I had grown so accustomed to.
I have never worked with anyone more vigilant and careful to make sure I used proper form while exercising. She worked consistently with me on the proper form far longer than any other trainer I have had, making sure I got it right before adding too much resistance or weights. She was very vigilant while I was doing the exercise and made adaptations to compensate for my lack of flexibility. And she answered my many questions on form and technique with knowledge and clear explanations.
Liz is the only trainer that has ever inspired me to stretch and roll out with a ball at home on a consistent basis. I am very results driven, and when I found what she recommended I do at home actually worked, I started doing it. Many other trainers have given me specific home stretches and so on, but none of them prescribed a combination that worked for me. I was happy for Liz to be taking on a new life challenge but was very sorry to see her go. My wife, who has also worked with many trainers, was on the cusp of signing up with her, based on my very positive experience. I wholeheartedly recommend her as someone who can train most anyone, regardless of age, stage of life, or present physical condition.
